# The bioregions platform: programmes and pages

*The inner pages of bioregions.darkmatterlabs.org, run by Dark Matter Labs. This page describes the site as read on 24 September 2026 (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, header). The snapshot holds 45 page extracts, about 9,500 words. Read for this page: every extract, from "5-year Forecasting" to "Towards multivalent currencies". Linked documents outside the site were not read.*

## What it argues

The inner pages turn the home page's seven-part scaffold into resources. The Toolbox page says Dark Matter Labs is building open-source versions of each component "as fast as we can" (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, Toolbox). Each phase page then lists the tools and readings that belong to it (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, phase pages 1 to 7).

Around the toolbox sit three programmes. The first is the book on Bioregional Financing Facilities. The second is a card-based BFF Game. The third is a stream of provocations, briefings and partner stories (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, Book, BFF Game and News pages). Several pages are marked as still in progress (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, Toolbox).

## Key points

- **Working templates.** A 5-year forecasting template projects profit and loss, balance sheet and cashflow monthly, without needing financial expertise (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, 5-year Forecasting). Others cover asset and liability mapping, a financial strategy, a Notion portfolio database and a legal setup flowchart (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, Toolbox).
- **Readiness before facilities.** The Stocktake and Gap Analysis template covers 15 core elements. Teams use it to find gaps before developing a BFF (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, Stocktake & Gap Analysis). Its worked example is Bioregioning Tayside (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, Tay Bioregion page).
- **Sensing and measuring.** A Bioregional Systemic Risk Register lists hazards, vulnerabilities and feedbacks for teams to filter locally (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, Bioregional Systemic Risk Register). A Bioregional Observatory would act as the intelligence and sense-making hub for a bioregion and its BFF (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, Concept Note: Bioregional Observatories).
- **Health as the mandate.** One page says BFFs draw their mandate from strengthening Bioregional Health. It proposes a draft scaffold of structural, compositional and functional integrity, covering human and non-human health (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, Exploration: Bioregional Health Framework).
- **The book's warning.** Nature finance routed through today's architecture risks "further commodification, privatisation, financialisation, and centralisation of natural assets and wealth" (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, Book page). The book names six features of a BFF, from Bioregional Focus to a Bioregional Health Mandate (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, Book page).
- **The BFF Game.** Players take roles such as investors, communities, public institutions and stewards, and combine Pattern Cards into a financing architecture. Its premise is "No single participant can finance the transition alone" (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, BFF Game). A test at Katapult Future Fest 2026 ran three tables of 10+ players and 8 projects (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, Testing the BFF Innovation Game).
- **News.** At a BioFi Deep Dive on 2 September 2026, Leon Seefeld launched the RZ Studio and the European Headwaters Flow Fund (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, BioFi Deep Dive). A Bioregional Briefing Room series shares recorded talks, including one with Audrey Tang in August 2025 (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, Bioregional Briefing Room Ep. 1).
- **Partners and engagement.** The About page lists nine organisational partners, among them Bioregioning Tayside, Findhorn Watershed Initiative and Bioregional Weaving Labs (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, About). The Engage page names a Substack as the main channel and plans workshops and working clinics (raw/bioregions-darkmatterlabs-subpages-2026-09-24.md, Engage).
